== General network config ==
The gateway (i.e. the firewall) is always located at IP 10.10.x.1, and is currently also acting as the central DHCP, DNS and NTP server, as well as an Avahi (bonjour) proxy.

The various subnets are within the private 10/8 range defined by RFC 1918. The local supernet is 10.10/16, subnetted into various /24 networks.

The third octet of the address always corresponds to the VLAN ID of the respective network.

=== DHCP settings ===
{|
|'''Range:'''      || 10.10.[VLAN].100 - 199
|-
|'''Subnet mask:'''|| 255.255.255.0
|'''Gateway:'''    || 10.10.[VLAN].1
|'''NTP:'''        || 10.10.[VLAN].1
|-
|'''Domain:''' || fablab.local (to make DNS entries unter .fablab.local directly accessible because Windows does not seem to properly respect domain search lists provided by DHCP)
|}

DHCP service is provided on LAN, WLAN and GUEST (the latter getting assigned external nameservers)

=== DNS ===
The central DNS server, providing forward and reverse name resolution for the various internal networks is implemented using ISC bind running on the local firewall.
In order to make things a bit easier, the internal domain fablab.local has DNS aliases (CNAMEs) pointing to the various servers, e.g. fablabnas.fablab.local is actually a DNS CNAME pointing to flz-nas-01.srv.fablab.local, the 'real' name of the NAS device.
This way, clients can simply reach all services by using their hostnames (e.g. 'ping fablabnas')

*Gewisse Tasks sind in Skanect sehr rechen-intensiv sind und dauern entsprechend lang. Es kann passieren dass nach dem Beenden des Programmes im Hintergrund noch ein Skanect Bearbeitungs-Task weiterläuft der verhindert dass man das Programm neu starten kann ("Ein Skanect Prozess läuft bereits" o.s.ä). Fix: Mit Strl-Alt-Entf (Task Manager) den "unsichtbaren" Task skanect.exe beenden, dann lässt es sich wieder starten
*Aktuell keine GPU Unterstützung, obwohl die neuesten NVIDIA Treiber installiert..?

== Prerequisites ==

Management of all network devices is restricted to the management network MGMT, VLAN 99, IP 10.10.99.0/24.

=== Management via physical connection to the switch ===
There's a dedicated management port on the switch, i.e. an (untagged) assignment to VLAN 99 on core switch port 24. Given the lack of DHCP in the MGMT network, you will need to manually assign the following IP settings:

<pre>
IP: 10.10.99.1xx
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 10.10.99.1
Domain: mgmt.fablab.local
</pre>

=== Remote management via VPN ===
In order to manage the FabLab network infrastructure from anywhere, an OpenVPN access is required.
The OpenVPN client will get an IP within the subnet 10.10.23.0/24, which on the firewall is allowed to access all networks. Therefore, this VPN should be restricted to authorized admins only.

== Switching Infrastructure ==
The core switches are manageable via SSL and SSH on their hostnames flz-sw-01 and flz-sw-02 respectively, or simply [https://flz-sw https://flz-sw.mgmt.fablab.local] for the one currently in operation.

There are various unmanaged Netgear 5-port Gigabit switches spread across the room to be used as access switches.

== WiFi Infrastructure ==
WiFi is provided on 2.4 and 5 GHz by a Cisco/Linksys WRT610N running OpenWRT.

The AP can be managed on [https://flz-ap https://flz-ap.mgmt.fablab.local]
=== Physical management connection to the switch ===
There's a dedicated management port on the switch, i.e. an (untagged) assignment to VLAN 99 on core switch port 24. Given the lack of DHCP in the MGMT network, you will need to manually assign the following IP settings:

=== Remote management ===

== Switching Infrastructure ==
The core switches are manageable via SSL and SSH on their hostnames flz-sw-01 and flz-sw-02 respectively, or simply [https://flz-sw https://flz-sw.mgmt.fablab.local] for the one currently in operation.

=== Overview ===
For performance and security reasons, the internal network is segmented into the logical domains listed below.<br>

{|
|'''VLAN'''||'''Name'''  ||  '''Network'''    ||   '''Subdomain'''
|-
|    13    ||   GUEST    ||  10.10.13.0/24   ||   guest.fablab.local
|-
|    -     ||   VPN      ||  10.10.23.0/24   ||   vpn.fablab.local
|-
|    69    ||   ATELIER  ||  10.10.69.0/24   ||   atelier.fablab.local
Network segmentation is implemented via VLANs on the switch (layer 2: separation of collision domains) and separate IP subnets (layer 3: separation of broadcast domains)
== Network segments ==

=== Overview ===
For performance and security reasons, the internal network is segmented into the logical domains listed below.<br>

{|
|'''VLAN'''||'''Name'''  ||  '''Network'''    ||   '''Subdomain'''
|-
|    10    ||   SRV      ||  10.10.10.0/24   ||   srv.fablab.local
|-
|    11    ||   LAN      ||  10.10.11.0/24   ||   lan.fablab.local
|-
|    13    ||   GUEST    ||  10.10.13.0/24   ||   guest.fablab.local
|-
|    -     ||   VPN      ||  10.10.23.0/24   ||   vpn.fablab.local
|-
|    69    ||   ATELIER  ||  10.10.69.0/24   ||   atelier.fablab.local
|-
|}

Network segmentation is implemented via VLANs on the switch (layer 2: separation of collision domains) and separate IP subnets (layer 3: separation of broadcast domains)
There are 12 permanently installed Ethernet links going from various wall sockets in the room to the rack, ending up on the black 24-port patch panel at the very top.
Different quality of cable was use (some CAT6, some shielded CAT5, some CAT5 UTP), so your high-frequency (i.e. Gigabit) mileage may vary.

The wall sockets are all labeled, the labels corresponding the the number on the patch panel:
Socket number 10 is located in the middle of the room near the ceiling on the cable rails. This port carries the VLANs to the access point:
The ports on the patch panel are then patched into the first core switch flz-sw-01.mgmt.fablab.local, again with the port numbers corresponding to the numbers on the wall sockets. Assignments of ports to specific VLANs happen inside the switch, see [[Internal Network]]
